Cool or Warm

Toygers can come in a variety of subtle shades, which can confuse the budding Toyger owner.

Describing the shades is very difficult and often subjective, but they can range from a cool ‘pumpkin or greyish’ background up to a more brown/Orange tinted background.

The colour of the markings will also vary dependant on the background. So although every photograph on our website are true photographs and have not been adjusted for hue or colour, we feel it a must that potential kitten owners visit us so that we can explain at first hand the differences.

Cool or not so Cool

Some people prefer the cooler coloured kittens and some prefer the more brown ones, although at this point it must be understood, that their colour may change as they mature

So what colours do the

judges prefer ?

We have shown cats with the full range of hues  and when judged by international judges there still seems to be personal preferences on coat colours.

Remember when the Toygers are judged the judge carefully assesses the cat against a breed standard, this includes many other attributes a Toyger should have.

Quite often a judge will make comments on the markings, boning and conformation of the cat but not so much on the hue of the coat.

So what variations on colour are acceptable?

Cool or Warm they're still adorable

Your Toyger will go through a number of Colour changes as it grows.

This can be confusing but we will be happy to explain this, just give us a call.

Toygers are born are normally ‘cool’ coloured, that is to say they are somewhat grey / pumpkin coloured with dark stripes, and it is not until they are a few weeks old, that you  try and guess what their final colour might be. Unlike other breeds where there are a number of accepted colours we describe all of our Toygers as ‘Brown’ Toygers.

Although as with every rule there is an exception, the exception in the case of  Toygers, is what we call ‘Blue’ Toygers. Although the Blue are not recognised in the breed standard, very occasionally a little ‘Blue’ Toyger is born. These make stunning pets, and normally have great markings, but cannot be shown although they may be of full Toyger x Toyger breeding (SBT).

The only other variation which occasionally turns up is a 'Marbled Patterned' Kitten.

The photos above and Below show kitten which have the 'Marbled' Pattern.

Although this pattern is not recognised within our breed standard, they make stunning pets and have every attribute of all of our other Toygers.
