Toyger Temperament

As breeders, one of the main reasons behind choosing to breed Toygers was the knowledge that  as a group, the temperament of the breed is very high up in the rankings of an ideal Toyger.

There are many striking cats out there which may suit some families who can accept the cat being solitary or perhaps a little territorial in its actions.

But thankfully we can feel content when placing our Toygers into family homes, due to their temperament; so really you have the best of both worlds, striking pattern and temperament.

Again with every breed, each cat has its own purrsonality, ranging from being extremely affectionate to one that likes to be loved on their own terms.

love them... love them... love them...

With their lively disposition, natural inquisitiveness and general lust to explore, the Toyger makes a wonderful companion

Because the Toyger is a domestic cat, with a long domestic heritage, they are affectionate and loving, but like all kittens need to be told when they are naughty.

Just like any youngster they will push the boudaries, explore all possibilites and be in the middle of all trouble.

Common sense, perserverance and training will give you perfect companion once they know their boundaries...

Toyger Temperament

Before we discuss any traits of the Toygers temperament it is important to fully understand  that Toygers are a domestic cat and are fully used to the day to day events in our lives.

They will sleep on your bed, watch  television and co-exist with both people and other pets.

Toygers are inquisitive and intelligent, so the most important thing when homing a Toyger kitten is to the realisation of the fact that that they like to explore, touch, taste and will sometimes try to stretch the boundaries (just like young children).

Although we know you will be totally in love and mesmerised by your Toyger kitten, never be afraid to tell them off if they do something you’re not happy with, this may be by simply telling them no in a firm voice or even isolating them for a short period.

Setting the boundaries as early as you can reaps the benefits as they get older.
